  • TROPICA® - Bunny Tail Grass (Lagurus ovatum) - 100 Seeds

Worth knowing: The annual dwarf grass, with a height of 20-40 cm, grows 40 cm long panicles, upon which ends the 2-7 long, fluffy, velvet flowers develop. Since they do look like small bunny tails due to their shape and the woolly, white hair, they are also called “bunny tails“. The grass grows both solitarily as well as in tufts and the flat, grey-green leaves are velvety hairy. The panicles are wonderfully decorative in a vase and very suitable for cut flower arrangements. A great effect is also achieved by planting the grass in a pot, at the edge of the terrace or in bright positions beneath bigger plants.

Origin: The velvety grass is indigenous to the Mediterranean regions and the West European Atlantic coast.

Propagation: Spread the seeds out on moist cultivation soil and press them on. You can increase the germination rate considerably by adding approximately 25% or perlite to the soil. This natural product stores water, warmth and has a soil aerating effect. At 20°-25°C and even soil moisture, the seeds germinate after 10-12 days.

Place / Light: The bunny tail grass thrives in very bright to full sunny places.

Care: Being a South European grass, the plant loves plenty of warmth and may as well stand completely dry. Lime-free ground is ideal and may even be hard and dry. The strictly upright flowers are of bleach-green colour and turn silvery white in summer.

Winter period: It is advisable to not prune the plant before spring. First, the dried foliage is a good winter protection and second, autumnal pruning leads to the rottening of many plants. Grasses are true garden beauties, especially in winter during snow.

    Bonsai Suitability: No
